CELPIP requirements for Canada PR

Understand CELPIP-General language minimums for Express Entry, compare the four skills, and turn your requirement into a practice target.

START HERE

There is no single CELPIP score for every Canada PR pathway. This guide covers Express Entry language minimums; meeting them does not by itself qualify you for permanent residence.

Which CELPIP test should you take?

For Express Entry, IRCC specifies CELPIP-General. Do not substitute the Listening-and-Speaking-only LS test. Confirm the test type against your own application route before paying for a booking.

Express Entry minimum scores by program

The table covers English as the first official language for FSW and the language minimums for CEC and FST. CELPIP-General reported levels correspond to the same CLB number. Read every skill separately.

A minimum is a starting point, not your whole plan

Language minimums, program eligibility and invitation scores answer different questions. Do not treat a minimum CLB level as a prediction of an invitation. This page does not calculate your CRS or assess your full application.

Write down a target for each skill. If you have an official result, compare it with the relevant row. If you only have a practice estimate, use it to choose what to study next rather than as an application document.

Check when your results expire

For Express Entry, language results must be less than two years old both when you complete the profile and when you submit the PR application. Plan with both dates in mind; an invitation does not remove the validity requirement.

Turn the requirement into a weekly routine

  • Choose your pathway and note the four minimums. Confirm details on IRCC, including whether a different route has its own requirements.
  • Take a timed baseline. Separate mistakes caused by language, misunderstanding the task and running out of time.
  • Spend your next sessions on the weakest skill. For writing and speaking, change one recurring problem and test the change on a new prompt.

Questions, answered

Is CELPIP 7 enough for every Canada PR program?

No. Requirements depend on the pathway and sometimes the occupation category. Check all four skills and the current rules for your program.

Can I use a Celmock AI score for immigration?

No. Celmock provides practice estimates. Immigration applications require accepted official test results.
